Seeing the invisible with SWIR Less scattering - better visibility

چکیده

Light scattering effects can be noticed every day when we look at the sky or the atmosphere. The main reason why the sky is blue on a sunny day is Rayleigh scattering (after Lord Rayleigh) of sunlight, i.e., the scattering of electromagnetic radiation by particles much smaller than the wavelength. However, for cloud and haze scattering, the Mie theory (after Gustav Mie) is very important where diameter-to-wavelength ratios of the order of unity or larger are characteristic. According to Rayleigh, for particles small compared to the wavelength, the scattering is inversely proportional to the fourth power of the wavelength. Therefore, SWIR wavelengths will scatter much less than visible light, and therefore, SWIR imagers, like the Xenics Xeva camera, will be able to see through the particles (haze, smoke, dust, ...). However, when particle sizes grow (Mie theory), scattering is not strongly wavelength dependent, and eventually, the size of particles can become large enough to also obscure SWIR images.

Seeing the Invisible

In this article we attempt a closer examination of the no visibility as it has been used within the ubiquitous computing comm seek to tease apart various understandings of invisibility as an emer ute of technology use, examining what true “invisible technology” m what ways it is beneficial, and how it might be designed for. We theoretical model consisting of two complementary concepts: invi use...

Social Media, Knowledge Sharing, and Innovation: Toward a Theory of Communication Visibility

T paper offers a theory of communication visibility based on a field study of the implementation of a new enterprise social networking site in a large financial services organization. The emerging theory suggests that once invisible communication occurring between others in the organization becomes visible for third parties, those third parties could improve their metaknowledge (i.e., knowledge...

“Seeing” the Difference: The Importance of Visibility and Action as a Mark of “Authenticity” in Co-production; Comment on “Collaboration and Co-production of Knowledge in Healthcare: Opportunities and Challenges”

The Rycroft-Malone paper states that co-production relies on ‘authentic’ collaboration as a context for action. Our commentary supports and extends this assertion. We suggest that ‘authentic’ co-production involves processes where participants can ‘see’ the difference that they have made within the project and beyond. We provide examples including: the use of design in health projects which see...
